Since signing to Bella Union, Oslo band Broen have release two spectacular singles ‘<3’ and ‘You (Detective)’ that showcased their unique style that takes cues from electronica, R&B, hip-hop, jazz and psychedelia. Today the Greek-Norwegian five-piece give us the gift of ‘Time’, a pulsating - neigh ticking - synth-pop stomper. Alongside the ‘80s-esque electronics, dynamic drumwork and folksy harmonies are thoroughly spirit lifting. All these cheery vibes come courtesy of philosophy, as the band’s synth player Anja Lauvdal explains, “Our very cool Norwegian philosopher Arne Næss said that the more negative feelings/things that happen in society often get mistaken to be more intelligent or more important than the happy ones, which is sad! The ability to be happy, and find your own kind of happiness, is awesome, and music can play a big part in that.” Undoubtedly, ‘Time’ is another art-pop triumph from Broen, set to feature on their delightfully named I <3 Art album, due October 20th. - HT
